Keep Texas Beautiful Individual Awards - 2001

Several organizations and individuals in the Midland community have received awards from Keep Texas Beautiful.

PhotoBob Cornell is the winner of the OP Schnabel Lifetime Achievement Award, at right. This once in a lifetime award was presented to Bob for his outstanding level of volunteerism. He is the founder of the Big Tootsie Tennis Club, a KMB TreeKeeper, RSVP volunteer, member of the Citizens on Patrol, Red Cross volunteer and a Permian Basin Master Gardener.

PhotoMidland Reporter Telegram was awarded 1st place in the newspaper category. During the past twelve months, the MRT ran 48 articles and editorials about waste reduction, litter prevention and beautification. KMB depends heavily upon the MRT to solicit volunteers and "get the word out." Meta Minton, editor, accepts the award from John Bergman and Kevin Foreman, at left.

The Midland Soil and Water Conservation District and Sibley Nature Center were presented with an honorable mention in the civic category. Their distribution of windbreak trees and education of our youth about the environment provides a valuable service to our community. Burr Williams/Sibley Center and Dick Hagelstein/SWCD accept the awards, below.

PhotoAlldredge Gardens was awarded second place in the Ebby Halladay & Maurice Acers Business/Industry Awards. Alldredge Gardens has helped Midland and KMB through numerous tree donations and assistance with plantings throughout the City. Russell Johnston accepts the award on behalf of Alldredge Gardens, at right.

M Magazine took first place in the magazine category. Their coverage of the Trio of Gardens tour makes this, our only fund-raiser, a tremendous success. Meta Minton accepted that award on behalf of Cynthia Grubb.

PhotoThe City of Midland was the second place winner in the state of Texas in the government category. With the City's help, KMB is able to better serve our citizens and make Midland a cleaner, more beautiful city to live in and visit. Accepting the award are Stewart Gerhart/COM Parks Department and Ken Jones/Director of Utilities, at left.
