Governor's Community Achievement Awards - 2001

Keep Midland Beautiful is the recipient of a Governor's Community Achievement Award for 2001.

The Governor's Community Achievement Award is presented each year to 9 outstanding communities in Texas. These awards are sponsored by Keep Texas Beautiful and funded by the Texas Department of Transportation. Midland has won in the population category of 75,000 - 100,000 and will be awarded a landscaping grant of $130,000. Our past grant monies are being used at Loop 250 and Highway 191.

Award winners must exhibit excellence in seven areas:

• Community Leadership & Coordination
• Litter Prevention and Cleanup
• Public Awareness
• Beautification and Property Improvement
• Illegal Dumping and Enforcement
• Solid Waste Management
• Education

Some of our results include:

• 24,913 total number of volunteer hours
• 328 miles of highway right-of-way cleaned
• 200 miles of streets cleaned
• 246,775 brochures/pamphlets/posters distributed
• 156 workshops, talks and presentations given

In addition to KMB's award, several other Midland organizations and individuals were honored by Keep Texas Beautiful.
